We Are
Compendium Systems Corporation Publishing has been producing and distributing
niche marketing consumer magazines for more than 35 years. The current
titles are Beauty Handbook and Teen Beauty magazines. They are sold
at large, nationwide chain drug stores (Walgreens, CVS, Eckerds, etc.)
and are customized to appear as if they are produced by the individual
retail store. This customization may include the titles of the magazines.
For example, at Walgreens Beauty Handbook is known as Look Good Feel
Good; and Teen Beauty is TEEN extreme! at Walgreens.
The topics of the magazines include beauty (makeup, hair and skincare),
health/wellness and relationships. Each magazine is published four times
per year.
What
We Offer Photographers
Beauty Handbook and Teen Beauty magazines are great opportunities for
photographers interested in building their portfolios – and an
excellent venue to showcase their abilities in a national consumer magazine.
As you may know, printed clips/tearsheets in photographers’ portfolio
will assist them in establishing themselves and securing other commercial
opportunities. We only pay photographers’ minimal expenses.
The
Process
All photography is done by assignment. Once you accept the assignment,
you receive a purchase order to cover your total expenses for the shoot
signed by Mike DeSisto, the company executive vice president/general
manager. You will cast the shoot with models, hair and makeup artists
and stylists; and credit in the magazine will be given to each of the
contributors. Generally assignments are given with a two-week deadline.
After the shoot, contact sheets with the photographer’s initial
selections marked will be sent for review by Creative Director Blair
Howell and Editor Melissa Macron-Nitolo. Once we make our selections,
each of the images will need be retouched and hi res images sent on
disk to the Creative Director. Payment for the agreed-upon expenses
will be paid upon completion of the assignment, and magazines will be
shipped to the you directly from the printer.
